Hadley was married and served with the American Expeditionary Forces in France during World War I. Probably in 1917, he served in the 11th Provisional Cavalry Regiment. He was also QuarterMaster of the Edward Pierce (a chartered boat) and part of the QuarterMaster C.N.A. Transport QuarterMaster unit in Newport News, Va., 1918. His exact unit is not identified.
